Create Grading Categories
The first step in getting your Schoology Courses ready to sync to PowerSchool is creating Categories for assignments, tests, and assessments to be categorized into.
- To start, open a course and click the Grade Setup tab on the left-side menu.
- Click the “Add” button and create Categories as they make sense to you and your grading system.
- Examples include Tests, Classwork, Quizzes, etc.
Configure Grade Sync
The next step is to configure the integrated PowerSchool app inside of Schoology.
- Begin by clicking the PowerSchool tab on the left-side menu in the same course you created the Grade Categories
- You will first be presented with the Configuration page, in which two sets of information need to be completed.
- First, setup a sync schedule for Grade Sync. You can choose whatever window you’d like, but be sure to choose the “Daily” option, not weekly. This tells Schoology to automatically talk to PowerSchool during a certain window each day, automatically syncing new grades and assignments to PowerSchool.
- Then, you need to map Schoology Grade Categories to their corresponding PowerSchool categories.
- Note: If you do not setup custom PowerSchool categories (not required) the default categories set by PowerSchool will be presented in the right column.
-
You do have the (optional) ability to map multiple Schoology Grade Categories to a single PowerSchool category. This will place multiple Schoology Grade Categories into a single PowerSchool category.
-
After these steps are complete, click the blue “Save” button.
Grades will begin to sync automatically each day during the sync window you set. When creating assignments in Schoology, make sure to categorize each assignment and ensure the checkbox “Sync to SIS” is ticked.
